the fifth post. local talent. desmond and the tutus.

Desmond and the Tutus (aka the "Che Guevaras of awesome")

"Describing our sound is difficult, it's sort of like walking through a dark forest eating a packet of jelly babies and making friends with a group of cute woodland creatures. You guys spend the whole day together, laughing and playing and having fun. Then, at the end of the day, they walk you home. Just as you reach your house and say goodbye, one of them kicks you in the face while the other scratches out your eyes. Then they hug you and say sorry. Then they play the best rock 'n role music you will ever hear." Desmond and the Tutus describing their own sound (www.desmondandthetutus.co.za)

I personally think thats a pretty good description of their sound. At every gig I find myself at of their's i think to myself "this is like licking a lollypop. Just stick with me here for a second. I always find while licking a lollypop that I kinda enjoy the candy-like hard exterior but it often hurts my tongue and I get frustrated and bored. I lose hope in my lollypop, i think to myself "damn this lollypop sucks" but then i reach the center... the sheer joy, the immense delight, the child-like feeling of satisfaction. It overwhelms me. Desmond and the Tutus overwhelm me.

Maybe thats what 50 Cent meant in his remake of "Candy Shop".

"I'll take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot"
(50 Cent, "Candy Shop")

Maybe not...

Anyway. If you can, check Desmond and the Tutus. They rock out. Their live act kills.
I have not seen a local band that compares.

Upcoming Shows:

the third post. no pre-nuptual no band. kings of leon.

This is Jessie Baylin.

She hangs out with Scarlett.

This lead to Nathan Followill, drummer for Kings of Leon, proposing to his girlfriend Jessie Baylin. I am sure it wasn't a direct link. Like I'm sure Nathan didn't think to himself "wow my girlfriend's best friend is Scarlett, I better pop the question". She said yes, but who in their right mind wouldn't say yes to one of the magnificent Followill brothers. I, a fully heterosexual teenage boy, would even hesitate before declining the offer. So she said yes.

Nathan's brother, Caleb, the lead singer of the steamy four piece, has shown his disapproval of the marriage. He reckons limiting yourself to one girl isn't functional for creative thinking. Caleb doesn't want to sing songs about the same girl all the time, "It's watered down that way". Can one say "sibling rivalry" or "Noel and Liam".

That was 'my gossip' and 'pretty girls' combined together, with a touch of music. It wont always be like this.

the second post. introductions.

I live in Cape Town. I can't fill this blog with stories of how I almost met some indie rock star who hangs out at the local pub. Or how I followed this one band around for two days and now i play tambourine for them. I can't do that. I can't even play the tambourine. I kinda like music though and i hope you do too. So i will try promote good music, make people aware of bad music and have a little fun. I hope its fun for you too.

What I plan on doing is bring you the good stuff; both local and non-local talent.
Not only music. Design. Art. And general trends as well. If you know of any stuff that is ultra cool and think everyone deserves to have a look, listen or a perve please forward it to me at berry.at@gmail.com. thanks.

Thanks for visiting...be back soon.

new blog. first post. windmill.

Ok.

You like The Arcade Fire.

You like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

Well done.

You have good taste in music. Both bands releasing albums this year which in my opinion have been successful in emphasizing the sheer genius of each band. Neon Bible and Some Louder Thunder respectively. You should own both.

(Jenny Dowdell, 2007)

You should like Windmill.

Matthew Thomas Dillon, lead singer, pianist and songwriter ties together PUDDLE CITY RACING LIGHTS, Windmill's debut album, with gracious melodies, fragile strings, and immeasurable emotion. Have a listen you wont regret. windmill's myspace
