the fifth post. local talent. desmond and the tutus.
Desmond and the Tutus (aka the "Che Guevaras of awesome")
"Describing our sound is difficult, it's sort of like walking through a dark forest eating a packet of jelly babies and making friends with a group of cute woodland creatures. You guys spend the whole day together, laughing and playing and having fun. Then, at the end of the day, they walk you home. Just as you reach your house and say goodbye, one of them kicks you in the face while the other scratches out your eyes. Then they hug you and say sorry. Then they play the best rock 'n role music you will ever hear." Desmond and the Tutus describing their own sound (www.desmondandthetutus.co.za)
I personally think thats a pretty good description of their sound. At every gig I find myself at of their's i think to myself "this is like licking a lollypop. Just stick with me here for a second. I always find while licking a lollypop that I kinda enjoy the candy-like hard exterior but it often hurts my tongue and I get frustrated and bored. I lose hope in my lollypop, i think to myself "damn this lollypop sucks" but then i reach the center... the sheer joy, the immense delight, the child-like feeling of satisfaction. It overwhelms me. Desmond and the Tutus overwhelm me.
Maybe thats what 50 Cent meant in his remake of "Candy Shop".
"I'll take you to the candy shop
I'll let you lick the lollypop
Go 'head girl, don't you stop
Keep going 'til you hit the spot"
(50 Cent, "Candy Shop")
Maybe not...
Anyway. If you can, check Desmond and the Tutus. They rock out. Their live act kills.
I have not seen a local band that compares.
